It’s no secret that David Benavidez is fed up with Canelo Alvarez, trying everything he can to avoid a fight with him. That’s why he announced on social media that he will be moving up to 175 pounds. Furthermore, Benavidez will take on Oleksandr Golovin but that doesn’t mean he’s done taking shots at the Mexican superstar. One of the main reasons Floyd Mayweather was able to outbox Alvarez in their fight was because of his defensive skills.
Furthermore, one of those skills was his infamous shoulder roll, which neutralized Alvarez’s attacks. Subsequently, this was the first professional loss that Canelo Alvarez suffered, and he blames his inexperience for it. In a cheeky way Benavidez added the shoulder roll to his set of skills, which can be seen in Fight Hype’s video. People felt that it was a subtle jab at Alvarez since the iconic move is what caused his first loss.
Given the current state of affairs, it is unlikely that a fight between Alvarez and Benavidez will ever take place anytime soon. However, the boxing world went wild after witnessing that the undefeated ‘Mexican Monster was mastering the shoulder roll.
People like Mike Tyson have stated that Benavidez has the potential to defeat Alvarez and become a bigger Mexican boxing star. Hence, for the fans, it is clear now that Benavidez will pose a bigger threat to Alvarez after adding shoulder roll to his repertoire.
Canelo Alvarez picks Jaime Munguia over David Benavidez
Benavidez has been chasing a fight with Alvarez for several years now, but many people believe that Alvarez is ducking him. Furthermore, Benavidez is a force to be reckoned with since he has an undefeated record of 28-0 with 24 KOs. Hence, it is widely believed that Benavidez can pose a serious threat to Alvarez.
In addition, Alvarez has been setting his mood for his next fight, and it was reported that he will face Jermall Charlo. However, fans did not find the fight impressive, especially after Alvarez’s one-sided victory over Jermell Charlo. Subsequently, the PBC offered Alvarez a $35 million fight deal to fight Jaime Munguia, and Alvarez agreed to it.
Similarly, Al Haymon’s PBC had also offered Alvarez a $55 million fight deal to fight Benavidez since it is a highly demanded fight.
