Jose Valenzuela made sure there would be no confusion about who was the winner of his rematch against Chris Colbert. Valenzuela scored an amazing KO in the sixth round of the 12-round rematch against his rival, Colbert. Many fans and experts had stated that Valenzuela won their first fight, but the judges robbed Valenzuela of his victory. Hence, Valenzuela did not allow this match to be left to the decision of the judges and ended it flashily.

The rematch was on the David Morrell Jr. vs. Sena Agbeko undercard at The Armory in Minneapolis. Furthermore, the fight was the co-main event of the 37th annual “Showtime Championship Boxing” final broadcast on the network. Subsequently, Valenzuela stunned Colbert with a right hook that dropped him to the canvas, hanging on the rope. Hence, the rematch and co-main event were called off at 1:46 in the sixth round by referee Joel Scobie.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Valenzuela, from Renton, Washington, revealed that he underwent surgery. Furthermore, Valenzuela stated that he underwent the surgery two weeks before his first fight with Colbert. Hence, Valenzuela revealed that this significantly affected his conditioning and training before his first fight.

In the first five rounds, Valenzuela caught Colbert with several vicious uppercuts and hooks, which rattled him. However, a left uppercut in the first 20 seconds of the sixth round seemed to have damaged Colbert the most. Subsequently, Valenzuela again hit Colbert with his right hand, which caused Colbert to drop to the canvas like a corpse.

Colbert and Valenzuela first fought on March 25, 2023, on the undercard of the David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant super-middleweight fight. At the start of the first round, Valenzuela had an explosive start by knocking out Colbert. Subsequently, Colbert managed to get up, and Valenzuela went for the kill, but Colbert managed to survive the round.

After which, the fight was a close match, with both fighters landing quick and solid shots in every round. Colbert managed to use his speed and power to land a few shots, but Valenzuela was damaging him more. Both fighters kept fighting until the 10th round, and Valenzuela significantly hurt Colbert throughout the fight.

However, in the end, the match was awarded to Colbert via a unanimous decision, which caused great controversy. Hence, Valenzuela’s stunning victory in his rematch allowed him to avenge his 10-round unanimous decision loss to Colbert.
