It is not unknown that Mike Tyson’s life is straight out of a movie script. The former heavyweight boxing champion has been through it all. From a young kid from Brooklyn to one of the most celebrated boxers, Tyson has terrific stories to tell his audiences. After decades of fighting, knocking out opponents, and legal charges including rape convictions, etc, Tyson has become a changed man.
The ‘Kid Dynamite’ is now an internet individual who likes to talk about his experiences and has a great following. Tyson is often invited to various interviews and podcasts where he gets to talk about the exciting life he had till now. In one of such interviews, Tyson opened up about the time he had to fight a kid first and later had to face his father. Tyson remembered that when he was only eleven years old, he beat a kid in the ring and his father came to fight Tyson on the streets.
“I had a fight with a guy but then I fucked his father up when I was a kid though. Yeah, In the street,” said Tyson. The interviewer was obviously surprised and also confirmed how old Tyson was when that incident took place.
He asked: “You fought a son and his daddy on the same day and whooped them both…you say 16 17?” “Yeah, I was 11,” ‘Iron Mike’ replied. Under any normal circumstances, one could doubt the legitimacy of the story but knowing Tyson and how big he was in his teens, the story makes sense. Tyson was built like a tank and fighting came very naturally to him. Watching Tyson as an opponent in a street fight is not pleasurable.
When Cus D’amato Praised a young Mike Tyson’s qualities
Similar to many young individuals, Tyson in his early teens was suffering from anger issues and used to get into a lot of street fights. However, he got his roadmap after meeting legendary boxing coach, Cus D’amato who helped him to channel his energy.
D’amato harvested Mike Tyson‘s will to train rigorously and become a beast inside the ring. At the age of 17-18, Tyson was already knocking out fighters twice his age and was a killing machine. “Mike Tyson weighing 210 pounds has an exceptionally good record. Tyson not only has a very hard perfect punch in either hand but he has developed elusive qualities and has the will to win,” said Cus D’amato on his student, Mike Tyson.
As expected at the age of 20, Tyson beat Trevor Berbick via KO to become the youngest-ever world heavyweight champion of the world. Unfortunately, D’amato died a year ago in 1985, and couldn’t see his favorite student win the belt.
