“I don’t take anything personally,” Boxing prodigy responds to P4P #1 Canelo Alvarez’s shocking criticism on the former’s dedication to boxing

Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia
Pound for pound #1 boxer and undisputed super-middleweight Canelo Alvarez is the epitome of discipline in boxing, as evident from his achievements. There are no other boxer’s training videos as viral as Alvarez’s, especially the one on head movement. He last fought Caleb Plant last to last week at MGM Grand, where he knocked out Plant to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world. The Mexican’s current record stands 57 wins (39 KOs), 1 loss and 2 draws.
However, under his coach Eddy Reynoso, Alvarez is not the only gem of boxing polished time and again to keep shining. Under the great Reynoso, we have many more fighters of Mexican descent, one such is boxing prodigy Ryan Garcia, who’s undergoing personal problems, both mentally and physically that is putting a halt to this young, undefeated, knockout artist’s career.
What Ryan Garcia had to say on Canelo Alvarez’s criticism

Ryan Garcia last fought on January 2, 2021, where he knocked out British Olympian Luke Campbell via liver shot knockout. After this fight, Garcia was supposed to fight against Javier Fortuna and Joseph Diaz at different times but couldn’t fight them for one, being invested in managing his “health and well being” and two, he suffered a hand injury before the Diaz fight.
During the course of Garcia’s ongoing layoff, Canelo Alvarez, who is Garcia’s teammate under coach Eddy Reynoso but also his mentor, made a comment on the former’s discipline status in training for boxing and it didn’t seem to sound good.
In an interview with Complex back in October, Alvarez said “Look. Ryan has a lot of talent. But to me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 per cent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal. We always remind him as a team to come to the gym, to train, and to learn because you need to be in the gym.”
To this, as per the editor for the boxing section of talkSPORT.com Michael Benson, Garcia responded “I understand where he’s coming from. It’s always all love. I don’t take anything personal[ly]. I just know that I had a hard year. But I’m fully recovered mentally. When I get back I am coming for everybody’s heads. Destroy them.”
It’s good to see the mutual, automated understanding between two brilliant boxers who are even better teammates and push each other to the best of their abilities under a brilliant coach. What did you make of this situation between Alvarez and Garcia? Who do you think can pose the toughest challenge to Alvarez now he is the pound for pound king? Also, what do you see in future for Garcia?
