“Always been a dream of mine to fight at Old Trafford” – Tyson Fury would love a title fight at the legendary stadium
Tyson Fury at Old Trafford
Tyson Fury produced a stunning masterclass on the 9th of October at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. ‘The Gypsy King’ sealed the deal in his rivalry with Deontay Wilder after knocking him out for the second time. The scoreline currently reads 2 wins and 1 draw in favour of Fury.
With that win, Fury is now undefeated in 31 fights with just a draw ruining his otherwise impeccable record. He will now be looking forward to getting hold of all the remaining titles in the heavyweight division in a bid to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
In a recent interview with the Sun, Tyson Fury spoke about his ambitions of fighting at Old Trafford one day, before going on to point out that it has been a very long time since a fight at the legendary stadium took place.
“I’d love to bring a world title fight back to Manchester” – Tyson Fury
Fury told The Sun, “I’d love to bring a world title fight back to Manchester. It has always been a dream of mine to fight at Old Trafford. The last fight there was Eubank versus Benn in 1993 and that was massive.“
The Eubank vs Benn fight Fury is referring to here was a classic. Taking on Chris Eubank in a revenge match, fellow Brit Nigel Benn threw it all, kitchen sink included. In the end, both the fighters could not be separated, with the fight ending in a split decision draw.
Hailing from Manchester, a fight and an eventual win would make things special for the ‘Gypsy King’. At one point it looked like an all-Brit heavyweight clash against Anthony Joshua would take place soon. In fact, it was set to take place in the UAE, before a trilogy fight with Wilder intervened.
Had Joshua beaten Oleksandr Usyk, a fight against Fury would have been on the cards, and now that the world has almost reopened, Old Trafford could have been a possible venue as well. However, Usyk would very well be ready to fight at ‘The Theater of Dreams, since that is what the Ukrainian has been doing all his life – beating champions away from home.
