“Deontay Wilder will be heavyweight champion again”- Tyson Fury counts on his former foe to mount another title run

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder

It’s been two months since Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder to continue his reign as WBC Heavyweight Champion. Fury knocked out Wilder for the second straight fight in their three bouts, which was nothing less than a wild back-and-forth series of punches with a combined five knockdowns.

The ‘Bronze Bomber’ however suggested that he may retire in a recent interview. On an episode of Cold As Balls, Wilder says, “It’s mixed feelings because ultimately I have accomplished all my goals in this sport. I told my daughter when she was one that I’d be a champion and I’d be able to support her beyond her belief. I’ve done that. There’s a lot of things that I’ve accomplished that I feel I have to prove to anyone because I’ve already proven. Should I push forward? Should I give it a go one more time? Or should I just retire and focus on the other things that I want to get into?”

Tyson Fury when asked for his take on Wilder’s comments comes out in support of his former rival to carry on with his career.

Despite rumors of retirement, Wilder seems set to continue boxing with his comeback fight set to May. “I planned on not talking about boxing with him, but Deontay is such a warrior, such a natural fighter, that he’s already plotting and planning the same way he did after the fight against Fury,” Wilder’s coach Scott told World Boxing News.

It looks to be that Wilder will take a vacation before coming back to camp around March. Malik says that his next fight will not be at the level Wilder just left but it won’t be someone with a 27-11 record. “We have to give him a threat because Deontay gets up for threats”, is what his trainer had to say.

Looks like fans can still expect a lot more ruthless boxing from “The Bronze Bomber”.
