Mike Tyson is a huge fan of Muhammad Ali and has been following the legend since Tyson was a kid. Tyson has seen Ali’s career and how he became the Greatest boxer of all time very closely. So, when Floyd Mayweather came forward and said in an interview that he might be better than Ali, Tyson didn’t like it at all.
During an interview, Tyson was asked about Mayweather’s claims of him being greater than Ali to which ‘Iron Mike’ absolutely lost his control. Tyson called Mayweather a delusional and scared man. According to Tyson, in order to reach the same league as Ali, Mayweather will have to be accepted by the people.
“He’s very delusional,” Tyson explained. “Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of greatness with Ali he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself. He can’t take his kids to school by himself, and he’s talking about he’s great? Greatness is not guarding yourself from the people, greatness is being accepted by the people. He can’t take his kids alone to school. He is a scared man — a small, scared man.”
Tyson who is himself considered one of the greatest of all time always sincerely accepted Ali as the GOAT and doesn’t think Mayweather has what it takes to beat that level.
Mike Tyson doesn’t care about Floyd Mayweather’s glorious boxing record
Floyd Mayweather is the greatest defensive boxer of all time and his technique is second to none. Mayweather mastered the art of defense and dances around the ring elegantly.
Throughout his career, he fought some amazing fighters such as Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, etc but nobody was able to beat the defense of Mayweather. One of the major things that puts Mayweather different from other greats is his undefeated record of 50-0, however, Mike Tyson doesn’t think that’s enough to call Mayweather the GOAT.
“There are some people right, I don’t care how good they are, they are never going to be great. Even though they make money, they win titles, they aren’t going to be [Julio Cesar] Chavez. I don’t care how much money he has got. I don’t want to hear Floyd [Mayweather Jr.] talking shit about 50-0 and all that,” said Tyson in an interview with ESNEWS.
Mike Tyson comes from the older generation of boxers where numbers didn’t matter that much but the legacy that fighters leave had more impact.
