On Friday, the Milwaukee Brewers will play in their first World Series since 1982 after they eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers from the National League Championship Series (NLCS). Ahead of their matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, Brewers’ owner Mark Attanasio threw a shade at the Dodgers with talks of trade regarding Tarik Skubal.

The 2-time Cy Young Award winner was the biggest name during the trade deadline this year. With the Detroit Tigers failing to come to an agreement with him over a potential contract extension, several big market teams were linked with a trade of Skubal.

The Brewers were one of them. In the end, it was the Dodgers who landed him.

The 9-time World Series champions acquired the southpaw while giving up 3 top prospects to the Tigers. This made him the latest big name to join the Dodgers, who were aiming for a historic three-peat.

Following this trade, there were some questions raised regarding the Brewers. Several hosts and insiders unloaded on the team for not trying to land him.

Eventually, the Brewers ended up eliminating the Dodgers. A year after getting swept 4-0 by them in the NLCS, the NL Central side complete their revenge and swept the champions to reach the World Series.

Skubal was the starter in Game 1 and gave up the game-tying home run to Brice Turang and the go-ahead single to Luis Lara in the 4th and 5th inning respectively.

As they prepare for a huge showdown against the Tampa Bay Rays, team owner Mark Attanasio appeared on The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. During this, he discussed the topic of Skubal’s trade and threw a slight jab at the Dodgers.

This team was built, not bought. It’s critical to look at how we got here, and because I want to have sustained success, we had to do that by being careful about how many prospects we gave up.

Mark Attanasio said regarding Tarik Skubal on The Show: A NY Post Podcast

The Brewers did try to get Skubal. However, they were not willing to give up some of their top talents. They instead brought in Dustin May and JoJo Romero.

Scott Boras claims it will be better for teams to sign free agents like Tarik Skubal before the CBA expires

Once the 2026 season officially ends, the offseason will begin and the free agency market will be open. Super agent Scott Boras claims that it will be better for teams to sign free agents like Tarik Skubal before the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) expires.

On December 1, the current CBA will expire. If the World Series does go to Game 7 on October 31, there will be a month of time for teams to try and sign free agents.

With a lockout expected regarding the salary cap issue, things could look different afterwards. Boras believes, teams will have more freedom now and can react later.

For many teams, I can make an argument it’s clearly best for them to sign players currently, before the (new) CBA, than it is after. Because they have more freedom to do what they’re going to do. They can react later. Now they can get the talent. They can get what they want.

Scott Boras said as per The Athletic

Skubal does have the chance to surpass the record deal of Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese international currently holds the record for the largest deal offered to a starting pitcher at $325 million. It will be interesting to see how things pan out in his free agency saga.
