The one name that has dominated the headlines in MLB in the past few days is Tarik Skubal. On Saturday, the 2-time Cy Young Award winner got traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers. In a recent podcast appearance, an MLB host unloaded on the Milwaukee Brewers for not going all-in on Skubal.
The southpaw was in the final year of his deal and was widely expected to be traded by the Tigers before the trade deadline. Apart from the Dodgers, the Brewers were one of the top names that had been linked with him.
The NL Central side has also been one of the top performers in the league and holds one of the best records. So many expected them to be aggressive in the trade talks regarding Skubal.
In the end, the Dodgers were the ones who got him. The Los Angeles-based side acquired the 29-year-old pitcher by giving up Zyhir Hope, River Ryan, and Brady Smith from their farm system.
The move of Skubal to the Dodgers caused backlash on social media. Several fans once again criticized the NL West team and urged for a “lockout” and the implementation of a salary cap.
While a majority of fans are upset with the Dodgers, host Chris Rose has directed his anger at the Brewers. During his recent appearance on the Talkin’ Baseball podcast, the podcaster unloaded on the Brewers for not chasing him.
I love the Brewers. They are a tremendous story. The idea should not be just to survive. It should be to advance. And I don’t care. I am telling you this as a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan who did not pull the trigger on a Randy Johnson trade, who did not pull the trigger on a Curt Schilling trade, who did not pull the trigger on a Pedro Martínez trade. I regret it. I would have given up anything.

The Brewers’ current rotation consists of Jacob Misiorowski, Logan Henderson, Robert Gasser, Shane Drohan and Brandon Sporat. Among this group, Misiorowski is their ace pitcher, with the 24-year-old having the lowest ERA among any starting pitchers in the league.
A potential trade of Skubal would have seen them pair him with Misiorowski. This would have given the Brewers a strong boost to their pitching rotation and made them one of the favorites for the World Series title.
Skubal’s trade to the Dodgers has strengthened their chances of a 3rd straight title. The Dave Roberts-led team is hoping to become just the 3rd franchise in history to win 3 successive World Series titles.
An ESPN host also called out the Brewers after failing to land him
The Milwaukee Brewers were unable to land Tarik Skubal through a trade from the Detroit Tigers. Despite them being one of the favorites, they failed to bring in the 2-time Cy Young Award winner. Following this development, an ESPN radio host also called them out.

While Jacob Misiorowski has been their undisputed ace and has made himself a favorite for the NL Cy Young Award this year, they still need some pitching help to go all the way. Skubal was thus seen as a major trade piece.
After they failed to get him, radio host and former NFL star Mark Chmura aimed at the team’s front office. During ESPN Milwaukee’s morning show, Jen, Gabe & Chewy, the former tight end pointed to the timing of this deal on Saturday night and raised questions regarding the Brewers.
Great GMs roll the dice. Their currency is their players, and they have plenty of them. They have the No. 1 farm system in the league. … The fact that this happened Saturday night at 9:00 tells me they weren’t really serious players in getting Skubal.

The Brewers did add some pitchers before the trade deadline on Monday. They acquired starting pitcher Dustin May and relief pitcher JoJo Romero from the St. Louis Cardinals. They then got their hands on another reliever, Antonio Senzatela, in a trade with the Rockies.
So the team did make some moves and got some arms. How much will this help them, though, and how much will they eventually regret not going for Skubal? Only time will tell.
