The Rock recently had a generational run in WWE, leading up to WrestleMania XL. Some fans have even regarded his work as part of The Bloodline against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins as the best of his career. Seven Bucks SVP Brian Gewirtz recently revealed how this plan came to be.
On the Busted Open Radio podcast, Gewirtz went over the timeline of The Great One’s return to WWE. He contacted the WWE on the day of WrestleMania 39, when The American Nightmare lost to Roman Reigns. Further, he informed them that The Final Boss would be available for WrestleMania XL, and wanted to work with them to figure out plans for the event.
The former WWE writer called up his friend in the creative team. He informed them that there was a good chance of organizing The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at the next WrestleMania. At that point, the company had planned for Cody Rhodes to go through several hardships, starting with Brock Lesnar, and build his way back to the championship picture, something that ended up happening in real life.
Similar to The Rock-Ronda tag match (that was set up, but didn’t happen), I said, ‘There is a chance, there is a good chance, that Rock and Roman might be a possibility for WrestleMania 40.‘

Gewirtz told the company that they should not change their plans. Nobody knows what will happen a year later. However, he wanted them to be cognizant of the possibility in the back of their heads. The creative team member forwarded this idea to people in the inner circle, who seemed on board with it. They agreed that if they could make it happen, it would result in a storyline with a great build and a dream match.
The Rock feels honored to pay homage to Mark Kerr and the founding fathers of MMA
The People’s Champion is currently a part of a huge project named The Smashing Machine. The Brahma Bull will play the role of Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion and Vale Tudo Heavyweight Champion. He recently shared some footage of him preparing for the huge role.
The Rock said that he had been working hard for the role and was feeling good about his progress. However, he was far from satisfied. He was approaching the role as a complete student of the game. He was absorbing and learning as much as he could every single day.
The former WWE Champion claimed that it was his honor to pay respect and homage to Mark Kerr and all the founding fathers of MMA. Moreover, he said that his crew was ready to go, and they were all looking forward to starting production next week.
