Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar has been making the headlines in the 2026 Cup season majority for all the wrong reasons with his aggressive racing style irking the majority of the field. The most recent drama involving the duo was the fist fight with 2023 champion Ryan Blaney last week at Bristol Motor Speedway.
23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace talked about the drama and how the No:77 driver has become one of the racers with the biggest fans bases in the sport. At the moment there is no-one in the garage that plays the media game on the same level as the Spire Motorsports driver, growing the sport and personal brand.
You know, it’s interesting how the sport works out. You know, he’s playing into the media side and the hype and all that for his brand and good for him. He’s doing it better than anybody else.
Bubba Wallace said about Hocevar.

"Race people the way they race you, and don't take crap…"
"I got receipts for sure…" @BubbaWallace had a few candid comments on how he perceives @CarsonHocevar now on-track, and shares that he did reach out to @Blaney late Saturday night after the… pic.twitter.com/qExIiZlbBt
One key thing behind the fame of the young Chevy driver is the fact that his beef is often with the drivers that gets booed by the fans. This helps the Carson Hocevar to get the support of the divided stock car racing fanbase. Considering how passionate the fans are, it’s tough to lose their support, which is a massive advantage.
I think we’re in a spot in the sport where a lot of the drivers get booed, right? And you finally have somebody going in and wrecking those drivers that get booed. And next thing you know, that driver is getting praised for it. So, it’s interesting how it all works out, but it is what it is.
Bubba Wallace added.
Later in the same conversation Bubba Wallace highlighted how Hocevar is making things too hard for him with all the drama and making the rival drivers frustrated about him. That will create an environment where he will get punished for incident that might not be his mistake and it’s bad for him in the long run.
You know, I think he’s definitely making it hard on himself. With everything that goes down, whether it’s his fault or not…And that’s where so much frustration gets built up because his name seems to be a part of an on-track incident the majority of the time. Again, his fault or not. And so that’s where a lot of frustration comes from, from the drivers.
Bubba Wallace asserted.
Denny Hamlin explains one big issue with Carson Hocevar’s racing
Wallace’s boss Denny Hamlin made the perfect observation about Hocevar’s racing and why he gets into controversies via his podcast. He admitted that the Spire driver always goes for the nuclear options during on-track dules and that often leads to big wreck with massive consequences.

My thoughts on it was that I thought Carson had two options. One was the nuclear option, which is the, ‘Okay, if you’re going to come down when I’ve got my run, I’m not lifting.’ That’s one option. That’s the nuclear option, which is you know the outcome. That guy is going to wreck.
Denny Hamlin said on his podcast.
Another major issue with the racer is the nonchalant attitude he shows often after the incidents that many perceive as disrespectful. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to layout for the star driver in the coming days.
