Byron Scott Dismisses LeBron James GOAT Legacy Over Ring-Chasing Criticism
LeBron James joining the Philadelphia 76ers has brought out his critics who claim that ring-chasing has tarnished his legacy.

LeBron James made it clear that the primary reason he was joining the Philadelphia 76ers was that he wants to fight for more championships before it is time to hang up his sneakers.
This move came with a lot of mixed reactions. On one hand, his fans were happy that ‘the King’ would get a legitimate chance to add to his collection of rings, considering he struggled to do so with the lack of overall talent at the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Sixers are a complete team at this stage, after they added key pieces alongside James. On paper, they have the best starting lineup and a commendable bench.
However, there are many who believe that he is ‘cheating’ his way to trying to match both Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, two players who are constantly in the GOAT debate alongside the Akron native.
To counter those claims, fans have pointed out that other great players have moved teams during their careers, and questioned why the four-time champion was the only one receiving ‘hate.’
Most of us judge… LeBron based on the guys that you just mentioned. I’ll throw one more guy in there Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He got traded from Milwaukee to LA, right? So two teams in his whole career. MJ two teams... So when you’re judging LeBron, you’re looking at the greatest players of all time and what they did at those organizations, they basically never left.

The three-time champion argued that most of the greatest players did not hop teams in the way LeBron James has. Therefore, he believes that the GOAT argument goes against him because he left and joined other teams on his own terms.
Olden Polynice details how Kobe Bryant asking for a trade was different from LeBron James jumping teams
This discussion continued until Fast Break’s host asked Byron Scott and Olden Polynice whether fans were justified in suggesting that Kobe Bryant’s request for a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers excused LeBron James’s changing teams.

It’s not the same thing. Requesting a trade and sitting back going, ‘Ok. My boy is over there. We are getting this guy. I’m gonna go there because, man, they got the best players.’ It’s a big difference between the two. To request a trade doesn’t necessarily mean you want to leave. That’s code. ‘Get me some help.’

The 17-year veteran added that he even requested a trade when he was tired of losing with the Sacramento Kings. But that is a tactic players take in order to push front offices to bring in better players.

It does not immediately indicate that the said athlete wants to leave. On the other hand, LeBron James has chosen his next destination every single time. In all those instances, he has either joined a team laden with talent or made a prerequisite for them to trade for some top players if he were to join them.
Shannon Sharpe slams Shaquille O’Neal dismissing LeBron James’ Lakers legacy
Apart from his legacy as a basketball player, LeBron James’ time with the Los Angeles Lakers is another major point of debate. While many believe that it was a success, former franchise superstar Shaquille O’Neal made it clear that James does not have a seat at the table of all-time Lakers greats.
It seems to me that Shaq is using the ring. So by that argument, Horace Grant, Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, all those guys that won rings are better than LeBron. Because if they got more rings, if they got more than one, he’s looking at it like the rings. Chad, even the most diehard Laker fans know Kurt Rambis is not a better player than LeBron.

Sharpe believes that O’Neal’s argument is baseless since there are multiple role players who have more championships than James. He added that apart from the one title, the four-time league MVP brought the Lakers back to relevance, which is worthy of being labeled as a great achievement.
