Adidas famously offered Caitlin Clark the cheapest contract among all four companies vying for her signature contract deal.

When Caitlin Clark was being hailed as a female athlete who was going to revolutionize women’s sports, not everyone was immediately ready to buy into it.

There was still some skepticism over whether her college fame would transition into long-term growth in the WNBA. That apprehension led some sports apparel brands to offer a pittance.

Famously, Nike won the race with an eight-year, $28 million deal. Even though her ardent fans believed she deserved more, it was still the richest signature shoe contract ever handed out to a female athlete.

Eventually, the sports apparel giant started reaping the benefits of that deal. Her custom PE Kobe Protro shoes were sold out faster than most of the men in the NBA could. On top of that, they wore her shoes more than any other brand last season.

That lack of investment in women’s sports was touted as one of the reasons Stephen Curry walked away from Under Armour. Now, as the Indiana Fever superstar is about to launch her first signature shoe, her team and everyone associated with her are pushing the Caitlin 1 across all spectrums. In the Fever’s latest post, Adidas decided to sneak their way in.

Thanks, they drop Friday.

This was the German giant’s response to Caitlin Clark’s original comment on the Fever’s page, stating that her shoes were fire.

I’m busy Friday, sorry! Super free Oct 1 tho. hope you are too!

The three-time All-Star wrote this as a response to Adidas. She knew they were trying to promote Anthony Edwards‘ AE3 sneakers, which are dropping on Friday. Instead, she gave them the option of being there on the day her signature shoe releases.

Adidas shamelessly offered Caitlin Clark the cheapest signature shoe deal

Stephen Curry wanted Under Armour to pay Caitlin Clark more than the four-year, $16 million they offered her. It might have matched Nike’s average payout, but even the Golden State Warriors superstar knew that the length and overall value of the deal were not enough.

But then, Under Armour’s deal was not the worst. Puma simply walked away when Clark’s representatives told them that the minimum bidding would start at $3 million per year. That is enough to gauge how little they are paying perennial winner Breanna Stewart, who just led Team USA to their fifth straight World Cup.

However, that was not the worst offer the Hawkeyes great received. That mantle belonged to none other than Adidas. For a company that is valued at approximately $25 billion Euros, they offered Clark a four-year deal worth $6 million.

They did offer a signature shoe, which Puma did not. But that average pay of $1.5 million was by far the worst of the lot. At the time, fans noticed this and flamed the company for even trying.

Now, for them to sneakily enter Caitlin Clark‘s upcoming shoe promotions to trump one of their own might have been shameless on their part. No wonder the point guard felt it was apt to give them a taste of their own medicine.

Caitlin Clark gave out Caitlin 1s to her teammates

Adidas probably knew that the demand for Caitlin Clark’s first signature shoe will likely be a lot more than Anthony Edwards’ next one draws. That is why they entered the fray to try and sneak in some views.

The popularity of her shoes has become such that even her peers want them before the public release. After giving out two of her sample pairs to StudBudz duo Natisha Hiedeman and Courtney Williams at the All-Star weekend, demand has grown.

Clark probably knew that her teammates would not appreciate it if they did not get shoes, and possibly instructed Nike to get some pairs ready by the time she returned from Germany.

Lo and behold, when she walked into the Fever facilities, she handed out her Caitlin 1s to her teammates. At least they will be able to brag that they got some before the rest of the world does.
