Caleb Plant currently stands out as one of the most entertaining boxers, especially because of his infamous celebration. Back in 2022, when ‘Sweethands’ celebrated his victory by digging a grave for his opponent, the fight fans went baffled. It seems he has done it again, which drew similar reactions from boxing enthusiasts.
His opponent, Trevor McCumby had not fought anyone close to the level of Plant in the professional ranks. McCumby had an impressive amateur career, which saw him win seven national titles. Following such a feat, few felt he had much of a chance against the former IBF super-middleweight champion.
The fight started cautiously, with both boxers trading clinical shots at each other. However, in the second round, McCumby showed that he deserved his chance at the top of the division. The 31-year-old landed multiple clean left hooks in the second round, including one at the end that wobbled Plant.
Caleb Plant’s gloves touched the canvas near the ropes, and the referee initially considered it a slip. However, when ‘Sweethands’ got back up, he seemed unsteady on his feet. Plant started finding his rhythm in the third round, landing a good counter right hand. In the fourth round, a powerful left hook to the body knocked Plant down, and this time, it was officially ruled as a knockdown.
By the ninth round, the 31-year-old’s body language had noticeably changed, and Plant aggressively attacked him against the ropes. The referee ultimately intervened and stopped the fight. Plant did his controversial celebration to celebrate his victory, a move that buzzed after his knockout win over Anthony Dirrell in 2022.

With that victory, Plant becomes the WBA ‘interim’ champion. Not only that, he is now the contender to take on the winner of the main event of the evening. The main event is set between Plant’s former foe, Canelo Alvarez, and Edgar Berlanga. Interestingly, Canelo fought Sweethands back in 2021, a controversial fight that was filled with anger for each other.
Alvarez managed to thrash Plant and became the undisputed super middleweight champion following that. Now, returning to Caleb Plant’s recent victory, his celebration caused quite a havoc in the community.
The fight fans sang several praises for Sweethands. Not only that, some even remarked on his excellent grit to turn the bout in his favor. Check out some of the reactions below.
