Caleb Williams is slowly getting back to full fitness. The third-year quarterback took part in a walk-through on Wednesday. Afterward, Williams spoke with reporters.

Williams hasn’t played since picking up a hamstring injury in Week 2’s defeat to the Vikings. The Bears didn’t disclose the severity of Williams’ injury, leading to rumors and speculation on social media.

Reporters asked Williams about the nature of his injury. “There’s nothing that has come out that has been right about what it is and what it has been,” Caleb Williams said via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

When the reporter pressed him to reveal the grade of his hamstring tear, Williams calmly shut him down.

We got a grade, but I wouldn’t say it’s deserved to be out there after all the false ones… It’s not deserving. Next question. Next question. Thank you.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Williams suffered a Grade 2 hamstring tear. Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent deputized at quarterback in the following three games. Chicago defeated the Eagles and the Jets before losing to the Packers last week.

Caleb Williams comments on his emotional outburst after suffering a hamstring injury

Fans on social media saw the medical team put Williams on a cart before escorting him into the tunnel. A teary-eyed Williams waved to fans and disappeared into the Soldier Field tunnel.

Rather than empathizing with the former Heisman Trophy winner, a section of fans ridiculed him. They compared his injury with Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart’s.

Trolls flooded the internet after the Giants revealed that Dart wanted to return to the field despite carrying a badly damaged knee. Later, the Giants placed him on season-ending injured reserve.

Compared to Dart’s condition, Williams got off easy even though he missed a few games. The trolls haven’t stopped targeting him. However, Williams made it very clear that he will not shy away from showing emotion on camera.

I’m always going to show emotion, especially when I can’t be out there with the guys when something like that happens.

Williams didn’t lose playing time due to injury in his three years at Oklahoma and USC. He played all 34 games in his first two years with the Bears and both playoff games last year. So, standing on the sidelines for three straight games frustrated him.

Per the Bears’ official website, Williams had a full practice on Thursday. Although head coach Ben Johnson refused to comment on who will start against the Falcons on Sunday, he didn’t rule out Williams either.

Williams revealed that he’s moving freely again at practice and “hit a top speed the other day, one of my high speeds I’ve ever hit.” He’s ready to start against the Falcons if Johnson lets him.

Johnson is likely to wait until the final moments to announce the starter. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter teased that Williams is ready enough to play.

Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich also dropped a hint about Williams when reporters asked him about Sunday’s matchup against the Bears.

This is my first time going against him. … Now that I’ve gotten the opportunity to really study him, he’s not just the face of the franchise. He’s one of the faces of the NFL, of the league. It’s going to be a great challenge.

Jeff Ulbrich said via ESPN’s Marc Raimondi

Williams has played 36 games for the Bears since they drafted him first overall in 2024. He has thrown 717 completions (60.5%) for 7890 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He has also scored 5 rushing touchdowns.
