Cam Newton caused a massive stir on social media over his blunt statement on Eli Manning’s nomination for the Hall of Fame honor, resulting in backlash from fans. The former Carolina Panther star appeared envious of Manning, especially since his name is still debatable for the HOF honor. 

The New York Giants legend and two-time Super Bowl champion finally earned his place among the nominees for the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame honor. Of the count of 167 total nominees of the modern era, Eli Manning is among the 16 with first-year eligibility. 

Upon hearing about the nomination by Pro Football Hall of Fame, Newton’s displeasure was quite evident as he felt it should be his name among the first-year nominees over the former Packers star. In his bold statement, the former NFL legend downplayed Manning’s legacy, arguing that if the latter is inducted before him, he deserves to receive two gold jackets.

Even though Newton doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring to his name, he considers himself greater than many prominent quarterbacks in NFL history. Recording 4,000 yards in his rookie season, Newton’s name is engraved in the pages of history as he is the first African-American to win The Associated Press MVP award.

Fans react to Cam Newton’s blunt take on Eli Manning’s HOF nomination

There’s certainly no doubt that Newton was an elite quarterback of his era when compared to the two-time Super Bowl champion Manning, the former often fell short. That’s why, his blunt statement of being more deserving than Manning, attracted a huge reaction from fans all over the social media.

Fans have been calling the former Panthers quarterback “the most overrated QB of all time.” One fan wrote, “Taking a swipe at another man’s career is disgusting. Especially when you could barely throw the ball,” while another exclaimed, “Cam Newton’s name shouldn’t even be used in the same sentence as Eli.”
