Sean Strickland‘s rise to stardom in the MMA community has been meteoric. Despite his conservative views, Strickland has amassed a fanbase inside and outside MMA. The former middleweight champion is a staunch opposer of liberal ideologies. Hollywood is the most liberal industry in the USA, and as such, a Tom Hardy film, Venom, became the subject of Strickland’s criticism.
Strickland is a motorcycle enthusiast; even an accident has not destroyed his love for it. In Tom Hardy’s superhero film Venom, Eddie Brock (played by Hardy) rode a Ducati Panigale V4 S. Brock is a resident of San Fransico and parked his Ducati in the alley in the movie. For Strickland, that seemed very unrealistic due to the huge crime rate in San Francisco. Moreover, he used the reference in his latest tweet to criticize the liberals.
Can't sleep…..Just wanna tell the makers of Venom you parked a 45k Ducati Panigale V4 S super bike in a San Francisco alley. You can't leave a penny on your seat in that liberal hell hole. Never in the history or motorcycles has that ever or will ever be done..Sean Strickland via X
The State of California is one of the most liberal states in the USA. As such, many in the UFC, like Joe Rogan, Dana White, and Strickland, remain critical of the state. All have spoken negatively about the state on numerous occasions. The crime rate in the city of San Francisco is something Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians point to as the problem with liberal ideologies.
Rogan, a former resident of California, has shifted residence to Texas. Moreover, White, a resident of Las Vegas, used to find Los Angeles a vacation destination. However, he does not think that now as he sees it in Miami, Florida. Strickland felt no one would put their expensive bike in a crime-riddled San Francisco. As such, he couldn’t help but take a shot at the film.
Tom Hardy channeled inner Conor McGregor for the Venom role
Even though Tom Hardy’s Venom film drew criticism from Sean Strickland, the latter might not hate Hardy. After all, Hardy is an MMA enthusiast and has won multiple BJJ tournaments. Hardy had also given shoutouts to Cody Garbrandt, an ex-UFC champion. Moreover, he has even attended UFC events, recently at UFC Vegas 87.
Interestingly, when Sony offered him the titular role in the superhero movie, he sought inspiration from Conor McGregor, the biggest superstar in the UFC. McGregor is a master trash talker and promoter. As such, Hardy utilized McGregor’s character to portray Venom/Eddie Brock. Even though it is a superhero movie, Venom is an antihero, which sums up the persona of McGregor.
Incidentally, Sean Strickland and Conor McGregor will soon return to the octagon in June. At UFC 302 in Newark, Strickland will fight Paulo Costa in the co-main event. McGregor will make his long-awaited comeback at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler. UFC 302 is on the first weekend of June, whereas UFC 303 is on the last.
