Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz is proving with every passing match that he is destined for greatness. At only 21, Alcaraz has four Grand Slam titles, across all three surfaces. He is already the youngest to reach the World No. 1 ranking. On Sunday (September 29), the 21-year-old achieved yet another milestone.
After defeating Tallon Griekspoor in the second round at the 2024 China Open, Alcaraz registered his 200th win on the ATP Tour. Coincidentally, Alcaraz’s 200th win came against the same player he defeated to record his 100th win in 2023 at Indian Wells.
With this, Alcaraz became the second-fastest man to 200 wins, with only 52 losses suffered on the way. Only John McEnroe is ahead of him in the list of the 29 players who have been World No. 1 and registered 200 wins.
Alcaraz also left behind his role model Rafael Nadal in this list as the 22-time Grand Slam winner had endured 55 losses by the time he registered his 200th win. While Alcaraz feels proud, the former World No. 1 is already targeting 300 wins.
Alcaraz’s 200th win on Sunday helped him take his tour-level winning percentage to an impressive 79. With this, he has climbed a few steps in the list of the top ten players with the best winning percentage.
Carlos Alcaraz hungry for more and more wins
Carlos Alcaraz further spoke about his 200 wins in such a short period. The Spaniard said that he felt proud to have ascended so quickly and pledged to get more and more wins for himself.
Alcaraz has had a great season so far, winning 45 of the 54 matches played. He clinched his maiden Roland Garros title this year and also won his first Olympic medal. The Spaniard also defeated Novak Djokovic for a second consecutive year in the Wimbledon final.
Despite a disappointing outing at the US Open, Alcaraz helped Team Europe triumph at the Laver Cup. Now in China, he hoping to land his fourth title of the season. Alcaraz next faces Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.
