It would not surprise many when talked about McLaren being one of the most improved teams in the Formula 1. For McLaren, it was the Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz partnership that got them to the third position in the Constructors’ standing. Too much contrary, seasons before they sued to lie somewhere in the lower-mid table. Both Norris and Sainz had immense respect for one another, be it off track or on. The pair was a great competition for the fanatics to watch out for, always. 

In a recent interview, Norris spoke about his relationship with Sainz and what made them stick in McLaren. Norris revealed how he and Sainz formed the ‘perfect combination.’ Back in those seasons, both Sainz and Norris often shored up McLaren’s strategy in the races by holding off their rivals in the midfield.

Norris stated, “We ended up being good mates away from the race track, but also fierce and tough competitors against each other, but also good team-mates.”

“We wanted to move the team forward, we wanted to win races and we worked well in that harmony, but we were also very competitive against each other.” 

“We just worked very well in both of these aspects, as team-mates, but also as competitors. I think we had the perfect combination of both of them,” concluded Norris on the topic 

Together, the pair worked to give McLaren valuable top-10 finishes over the course of the season. Sometimes, they had to battle against each other to give the team the best possible result in the races. But, having said that as the 2021 season is about to start in a couple of months’ time. Let’s see how these two former teammates battle it out. With a lot of expectation from the 2 in their respective camps, let’s see who delivers it better in the upcoming season.
