In Short
  • Charles Barkley stated he and Draymond Green are not on the same level as players.
  • Barkley criticized the Golden State Warriors' aging roster and its impact on success.
  • He emphasized that older players struggle to maintain performance and health over time.

Charles Barkley and Draymond Green generally have a good relationship. But a few days ago, that changed ever so slightly when the Golden State Warriors star took shots at the Hall of Famer.

That situation did not come into it by accident. The Michigan native subbed in for Shaquille O’Neal on Inside the NBA, and the conversation starter was the state of his Warriors team.

The Round Mound of Rebound tried to suggest that the franchise’s days of success were over. He pointed at the advancing age of their three most important players and how, historically, that has never brought success.

Green was naturally irked by this as he proceeded to troll Charles Barkley’s days with the Houston Rockets. The latter did the sensible thing by not responding to the four-time champion on the show. But soon, he had another opportunity.

I never punch down. Draymond’s a good player, but we’re not on the same level.

This was the 63-year-old making it clear that he was not going to undermine his colleague. But at the same time, Barkley reiterated that as a player, he is at a level that the Warriors’ forward cannot hope to reach.

The Alabama native was not being disrespectful, but took a stand for himself. Draymond Green may have the four rings on his fingers, but Barkley has an individual career that was enough to make him a legend of the game.

Charles Barkley continues to troll Draymond Green’s Warriors

A while later, Charles Barkley appeared on longtime friend Dan Patrick‘s show. There, the veteran journalist asked him the same question about the tense exchange with Draymond Green.

Patrick believes that the latter disrespected the former Philadelphia 76ers’ legend with his Houston Rockets analogy. To this, Barkley replied:

He took a personal shot at me, but I’m not sensitive… If Golden State were relevant, he wouldn’t be in the studio with me.

The Arizona resident made it clear that he was not going to be bothered by some personal attacks. Barkley reminded Patrick that others have done so in the past, and he has generally brushed them aside.

He has maintained a good relationship with Draymond Green, barring this one incident. They have sparred in the past, but it is unlikely that the 36-year-old’s attack will hinder their friendship.

At the same time, Charles Barkley made it clear that no matter how his Inside the NBA colleague feels, there is no denying the fact that the Warriors have become irrelevant.

Charles Barkley doubles down on ‘Old Warriors’ theory

Charles Barkley has long maintained that older teams struggle to be successful. He has experience of doing that himself when he was with the Houston Rockets.

While explaining to Dan Patrick about how age impacts players and teams, he cited how older athletes struggle to stay healthy, even if they start the season strong.

Everybody gets mad when I say this. Old people don’t get healthy. Old people die. The notion that he and Steph are going to get better when they get healthy, and being a year older, they’re not. They are just going to get older.

Barkley said

It seems he is also trying to suggest that older players do not have the same level of performance as they did when they were younger. Therefore, when the injuries add up, everything starts to go downhill.

Barkley insisted that the Warriors’ Big 3 are going to get older, and that alone will not be able to help them return to the form that made them a dynasty.
