Recently during a conversation with Kevin Harvick, on his podcast Happy Hours the 28-year-old shared the story. Chase Elliott explained how when he turned 16, he won his first Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Florida. Following this brilliant maiden victory, he was surprised by a Chevy Silverado from his parents.
I'd just turned 16, I think we just won our first snowball derby that year, I guess Mom or Dad kind of hid it after I'd left and got home and it had a big bow on it when we got back from the race. So it was an amazing week.Chase Elliot said during his interview on Happy Hours with Harvick Podcast
Elliott’s win at the Snowball Derby at just 16 made him the youngest-ever winner of the yearly category. He also won another Derby in 2015, when he was already an accomplished, full-time NASCAR driver.
Chase Elliot calls himself a speeder during his teenage years
Chase Elliott has always been a racer throughout his life. The 28-year-old Hendrick Motorsport driver has always loved driving fast and on the limit. During the same interview with Kevin Harvick, the driver revealed that when he got his first car at 16, he was a speeder who always loved driving over the limit.

Chase Elliot during the same podcastMaybe, maybe just got away with it. When I was 16, I would definitely consider myself a speeder on the road. But man, crazy, what a difference 16 to 28 makes because I'm five over the max nowadays. I'm just cruising on the road, I do not go anywhere fast anymore. Early on I had somebody watching me because it was not smart.
The No. 17 Chevrolet Camaro added how he was a massive speeder during his teenage days, and how he loved driving fast. But, he concluded by saying how there’s a massive difference to how he drives now on the road versus when he was 16, and that it’s not safe to speed.
