N’Golo Kante has admitted that the Chelsea squad have been caught off-guard by Roman Abramovich’s shocking decision to sell the club.
N’Golo Kante has become the first Chelsea player to speak out on Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell the club and says the players at Stamford Bridge were ‘not prepared’ for the owner’s statement.
The Chelsea midfielder, in the interview with Sky Sports, said, “It was something we were not prepared for.”
“It came quick, but the only thing we can do because we don’t control these things is do as best what we have always done … playing football.
“Playing football is the best for us, for the club and for the fans … it’s the only thing that we control and we want to do that.”
Roman Abramovich said on Wednesday he would sell Chelsea after 19 years amid growing calls for sanctions on the metals magnate, similar to those imposed on other Russian oligarchs, following Russia’s invasion.

Chelsea fans when asked about their thoughts on the recent development regarding the club’s change of ownership replied with appreciation towards the work Roman Abramovich has done for the club over these years.
Talking to Sky Sports, the fans said-
“100% a legend. There’s absolutely no question or doubt about it, he’s made the club so great compared to what it was when he came in, there’s nothing else more you can say about him.” – said one fan.
“I would say very much a legend to the football club. Since 2003, he has been wanting to bring success. He’s been very good. Getting 19 trophies in 20 years. I think personally, very, very well.”- said another.
