The 44th Chess Olympiad, also referred to as the Chennai Chess Olympiad, is being held in Chennai, India from July 28 to August 10, 2022. It is being Organised by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) and features open and women’s tournaments as well as a number of events aimed at promoting the game of chess. During the marquee event a Taliban flag was seen hoisted at the entrance of the event.
India is hosting its first Chess Olympiad at this time. The event was originally slated to coincide with the Chess World Cup 2019 in Khanty-Mansiysk, but it was changed to Moscow and set for the week of August 5–17, 2020. It was eventually moved to Chennai as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine after being delayed due to mounting COVID-19 pandemic concerns.
There are 1,736 participants in all, with 937 in the Open competition and 800 in the Women’s competition. In the Open segment, there are 188 teams from 186 countries, while in the Women’s section, there are 162 teams from 160 countries. Players from Afghanistan are taking part in this world event as well. on the 4th day of the Olympiad, a Taliban flag was hoisted and then removed from the entrance.

Wherever the players are, the white flag of Afghanistan is displayed in an important and conspicuous place at the door. which shows the good relations between the two countries. Below is the tweet regarding the same.
In the tweet above you can see a man standing at the Taliban flag which is hoisted at the gate. After a while, there was no flag seen at the same spot. we can also see a dig at the entrance which shows that the flag was hoisted and eventually removed.
Afghani media taking this moment as a matter of pride for them as the flag was hoisted at the entrance of the event and everyone entering would notice it. The tweet from Afghani twitter account also read that this moment shows the good relations between India and Afghanistan, the two south Asian nations.
