Chris Jones is considered a leader for the Kansas City Chiefs on and off the pitch. So when the 29-year-old defensive tackle comes to the defense of teammate Harrison Butker, perhaps a lot more will come forward in the coming days.

Jones is the first to show support for Butker following his controversial statement during a commencement speech at a Catholic institution for women. The Chiefs placekicker argued that women have been lied to by the twisted society, encouraging them to seek jobs as their primary goal instead of fulfilling their family duties.

A large part of social media turned against him in one night. Butker went from being a three-time Super Bowl winner to being branded as a misogynist and a sexist. On top of that, he faced the anger of the Swifties for using a quote from their idol Taylor Swift‘s song to draw parallels during his 20-minute speech.

To make Butker pay for his remarks, a petition to pressure the Chiefs into releasing him was created on Change.org.

Chris Jones, who was drafted a year earlier than Butker by the Chiefs in 2016, has had a close friendship with the 28-year-old. He came to Butker’s defense, tweeting out a special message on Thursday, May 16.

Butker has continued to remain silent since the speech, and he reportedly deleted his wife’s pictures from social media to avoid any backlash.

Butker gave his wife Isabelle‘s example to highlight how she takes care of the family, which allows him to win Super Bowls with the Chiefs without any headache. This was the part where most people were unhappy—mostly women. In their view, it’s nothing but a derogatory remark, deliberately trying to undermine the progress of feminism and gender equality in the modern world.

Jones must have seen the video; otherwise, why would he step up to support his acquaintance? However, did the two-time All-Pro’s girlfriend, Sheawna Weathersby, also catch a glimpse? There’s barely any clarity about the information.

Even if she has, her longstanding relationship from 2015 will not end just because Jones showed support for Butker. Sheawna has been Jones’ backbone throughout his journey, from playing at Mississippi State to being selected in the second round and lifting the Lombardi Trophy three times.

People Magazine reported that Sheawna is a frequent attendee at Chiefs games. Jones and Weathersby welcomed their first child together, Christopher Jones II, affectionately known as Deuce, in 2018. The couple welcomed their second child, Carson Dakota Jones, in 2022.
