“I could beat up Jake Paul at the weight class I am at right now” Claressa Shields’ strong reaction on being on a Jake Paul undercard
Claressa Shields’ transcendence from her legendary boxing reign to MMA has been nothing short of successful and here she is again scheduled to have her second pro-MMA fight at the end of October. During the press conference of her promotion, PFL, Shields weighed in some tough words on Jake Paul a.k.a. “The Problem Child”, claiming that she will beat up Paul at the weight class she is.
Shields said: “Paul was having a circus show. No disrespect to Tyron Woodley or Paul, but I’m a real boxer. I could beat up Paul at the weight class I’m at right now. I would never fight on the undercard of someone who does not possess the skills or accomplishments that I have.”
Claressa Shields explains her refusal to not be in a Jake Paul undercard
Shields says: “I would never fight on the undercard of Jake Paul. I’m a three-division world champion and a two-time Olympic gold medallist in boxing. I would never fight on Jake Paul’s undercard. I don’t know what Amanda Serrano’s purse was – I think it was $75,000-$100,000. I would never fight another boxing match for that money because I’m worth so much more. I’m a $1 million fighter.”
The hot debate is that while many professional athletes consider Paul to be a menace to the sport of boxing, some athletes and coaches credit him for being dedicated to learning boxing and also improving the raise of fighter’s pay-check, especially in his last fight card where he fought Tyron Woodley.
For Shields, it seems she is more on the former opinion and would stick to her current pursuit of MMA. Where Paul will be going, no one knows. Meanwhile, Shields will fight her undefeated counterpart, Abigail Montes in a 3 round MMA fight at 155 lbs division.
