CM Punk‘s return to WWE at Survivor Series in November 2023 would go down as one of the most shocking moments in pro wrestling history. He had been fired by All Elite Wrestling just a few months ago, and that got everyone’s hopes up regarding Punk considering a comeback to his former workplace.

It did happen, but the ‘Best in the World’ has now revealed that he might not have come back to the company he walked out of in 2014 had he main-evented a WrestleMania during his previous stint. G

etting candid on an episode of WWE Now, the World Heavyweight Champion echoed that sentiment and wondered what he would’ve come back for apart from his childhood dream of headlining the Grand Daddy of professional wrestling.

Calling it weird, Punk stressed that he now understands better than most that everything happens for a reason. Despite the 47-year-old saying so, his comments didn’t sit well with the vocally truculent minority of internet wrestling fans.

They’re arguing that the ‘Second City Saint’ would’ve definitely returned to WWE for the bag. And it’s not lost on anyone that Punk himself yelled at the camera in his first Raw appearance since 2014 that he didn’t come back to make friends; instead, he was there to make money.

While Punk is making a handsome amount of money being WWE’s top star and the current world champion, the ‘Straight Edge Superstar’ has mended some fences along the way as well. The entire locker room has since been overwhelmed with his amiable conduct, with several young stars vouching for the veteran.

But one person who doesn’t believe that CM Punk has changed a bit and is nothing more than a ticking bomb is Roman Reigns. The latter used that to explain why Punk isn’t the best fit to carry WWE on his shoulders. These men will duke it out in the main event of WrestleMania 42 on Sunday.

It’s going to be Reigns’ eleventh WrestleMania main event while only the second for Punk, but back-to-back, more so. Reigns and Punk fought in the main event last year as well. However, that match didn’t have any championship on the line and even included Seth Rollins as all three men laid their all on the line in a battle of who was at the top of their game.

But this time around, it’s only Reigns and Punk, barring WWE deciding to insert The OTC’s cousins, The Usos, in the finish to Reigns vs. Punk at WrestleMania. It’d be so predictable and anticlimactic for those who prefer professional wrestling over cinema. CM Punk has actively pushed for the former while berating the Bloodline-made-famous ‘cinema’ term in WWE.

CM Punk insulted Roman Reigns in fiery promo on Raw

This past Monday on Raw, CM Punk dropped Pipe Bomb 2.0. He bashed Pat McAfee and his agent who shoehorned him into this business. As one could tell, Punk was talking smack about the Endeavor and TKO CEO Ari Emanuel. ‘The Cookie Master’ explicitly asked to lower the ticket prices for WrestleMania to counter the noise around it still not being sold out this close to showtime.

It was later revealed by several media outlets that Punk’s promo was majorly unscripted even though he did receive the bullet points on what he was supposed to say. His blistering remarks targeting TKO mirrored the general backstage frustration among numerous talents in WWE with ticket prices keeping diehard wrestling fans from attending their shows.

But before all of that, CM Punk kept his address strictly focused on trashing Roman Reigns. The Chicagoan called ‘The Tribal Chief’ boring and downplayed his tools as store-bought and plastic, just like him. Punk affirmed that he had to earn every single accolade that he has owned in pro wrestling, unlike Reigns, whose father’s goodwill helped his son secure a favor job because he failed in football.

Punk even made references to Reigns’ cousin, The Rock, by saying that Reigns puffs his chest and loiters backstage as if he were ‘The Great One’. Punk also stressed that ‘The Head of the Table’ ate dog food for a weird old man who made Punk’s life hell and expected to keep up with it, which was a jab at former WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ also stated that if anyone else had spectacularly failed in 8 of the 11 times they were made to headline WrestleMania, they would’ve been fired and blackballed. With both men slated to be at Raw in Sacramento this coming Monday, the fans could expect some more fireworks. It’d be very interesting to see what Reigns comes up with.
