Cody Rhodes has been the face of WWE. He has been representing the company for over a year and has become the mainstay of the promotion. Although he is beloved by the WWE Universe, there is a small portion of fans who laud him for his heel turn. The American Nightmare finally responded to these statements in his recent interviews.
Speaking on The Pivot, the Undisputed Champion admitted that being an antagonist is a difficult thing in WWE today. He went on to say that to become a top heel, a person needs to go all out with his antics. The American Nightmare said that if he attempts such a move at this point in his career, he is likely to get canceled, or else people might grow bored of him.
There's a growing section of fans that wants to see that happen for me at some point. I understand the links, but I don’t really know if they know what they’re asking for though. If you’re really wishing for that, it’s scorched earth.Cody Rhodes via Pivot
Moreover, he praised The Rock for such a huge character change at such a point in his career. Rhodes said that the Final Boss had to go to extreme heights to get the heat from the fans. Even though he couldn’t get that heel heat from the fans. Therefore, if he, as the Undisputed Champion, needs to sell merchandise and send people home happy, turning into a bad guy cannot be the move.
Besides, Cody Rhodes also praised the top villains in WWE, such as JBL. Furthermore, the 39-year-old star is involved in a heated feud with the Bloodline. He is set to take on the faction alongside Kevin Owens and Randy Orton at Money in the Bank. The American Nightmare has been working as a locker room leader currently and has been pretty impressive with his work as of late.
