It’s quite amusing how an utter rejection of a babyface Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson led to the birth of a savage on-screen villain known as ‘The Final Boss’. It was an absolute pleasure for those who used to drool over what The Rock meant to the business during the Attitude Era. ‘The Final Boss’ gimmick was a reflection of Johnson’s nuances from back in the day, and it gave a dose of nostalgia to millions.

The Hollywood mogul made Cody Rhodes‘ life a living hell in the lead-up to WrestleMania 40. Having pledged to not let Dusty‘s baby boy win the Undisputed WWE title from his cousin Roman Reigns, Rock decided to go out of his way to preclude Rhodes from finishing his story. But everyone saw what actually happened. ‘The American Nightmare’ recently joined ALL THE SMOKE podcast and briefly spoke on the future of Rock’s wielding persona.

He came back to a very tumultuous WWE, year or so ago, and decided no ‘I’m not gonna deal with, instead I’m gonna create a new character even though I’m already one of the greatest characters ever,’ that being the Final Boss, and we’ve just scratched the surface on the Final Boss.

Rhodes said that the former 10-time world champion returned to WWE at a time when things were very tumultuous. ‘The Prodigal Son’ mentioned that the Smashing Machine actor decided to turn into the Final Boss to deal with all that mess. Rhodes hailed it as one of the greatest wrestling characters ever and made a startling claim about the villainous gimmick just scratching its surface.

The ex-AEW EVP also put Rock on his Mt. Rushmore of pro wrestlers. Their previous interaction on WWE programming produced an iconic heel turn. Back at the Elimination Chamber in Toronto, John Cena went low on Rhodes upon The Rock‘s behest. It brought out a side of Cena that the fans hadn’t seen since the 17-time world champion’s early days.

‘The Great One’ hasn’t appeared on WWE television since then, and he basically abandoned the entire storyline for reasons best known to him. It’s unknown at this point if Rock will ever return to WWE for the advancement of his Final Boss character. He has a ton on his plate in the near future with a massive Martin Scorsese movie in the works with him as the lead.

Cody Rhodes terms his WrestleMania 39 clash against Roman Reigns a ‘complete match’

Cody Rhodes fulfilled his destiny at last year’s WrestleMania by overcoming the odds against Roman Reigns, who, at the time, was backed by The Rock. The crowning of Rhodes wouldn’t have felt the way it did without a gut-wrenching prequel to that high in Philly. Because, a year prior, it all fell apart for ‘The QB1’.

Despite being a red-hot favorite to dethrone Reigns at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes ended up losing an incredible match after Solo Sikoa planted a thumb on his chest. After the ‘Tribal Chief’ pinned the erstwhile Stardust to retain his title, one could hear a palpable gasp across the entire SoFi stadium.

Looking back on that moment of his career, Rhodes said on ALL THE SMOKE podcast that his WM 39 clash against Reigns was, in a weird way, the first time in his career when he felt he had a complete match. Calling himself a slow learner, ‘The American Nightmare’ affirmed that whatever he was able to accomplish in that ring was special to him.

Is Cody Rhodes done with Drew McIntyre after SNME?

This past weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody Rhodes once again ousted Drew McIntyre to keep his Undisputed WWE title reign intact. There was no champion’s advantage for ‘The American Nightmare’, as he could’ve lost the belt had he gotten himself disqualified or counted out. However, that didn’t bother him much.

In fact, the North Carolina-born wrestler used the prop to his advantage. McIntyre had brought the WWE title inside the ring and tried instigating Rhodes to hit him with it. The Scot ate a DDT on top of the title when the match referee was down and therefore couldn’t see what Rhodes did there.

‘The Prodigal Son’ found a way to retain his championship by hook or by crook. It’d be interesting to see if this feud will still continue after McIntyre lost two title matches on the trot. A big chunk of the fans is growing tired of WWE treating the Ayr-born wrestler the way it has been doing. ‘The Chosen One’ hasn’t held the world title since WrestleMania 40, and it has started to sound like a broken record.
