The Indianapolis Colts were 7-point favorites against division rivals, the Tennessee Titans at kickoff. Shane Steichen’s team outgained the Titans 232-64 edge in total yards in the first half.
Quarterback Daniel Jones threw one touchdown while kicker Spencer Sharder scored two field goals on three drives.
The balance of the fixture tipped in the Titans’ favor when Jeffery Simmons forced running back Jonathan Taylor to fumble on a run. Titans capitalized, with Joey Slye making a 29-yard field goal. Slye added a 56-yarder with 3:21 left in the third to reduce the gap to seven points.
Tennessee took its first lead early in the fourth quarter when Cam Ward connected with rookie receiver Carnell Tate for an 8-yard touchdown. The Titans special teams made a big play.
James Williams Sr. broke free and blocked Rigoberto Sanchez’s punt. Femi Oladejo scooped and scored to add to the Titans lead.
Indy tied the score five minutes later. Taylor scored a 4-yard touchdown. However, cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt’s 36-yard pass interference penalty set up Slye to hit a 49-yard field goal just before the two-minute mark. Slye added a fourth FG from 44-yards. The Titans won 26-20.
Fans inside the Lucas Oil Stadium were unhappy with the Colts display. They heavily booed the players at the final whistle. In the post-match presser, Steichen acknowledged that turnovers killed the game.
We’ve got a lot to fix, and we’ve got to fix it in a hurry. Turnovers continue to be an issue; we’ve got to handle that better. We can’t give up blocked punts, we can’t give up a kick return… We gotta give them something to cheer about. You know? I don’t blame them for booing one freakin’ bit.
Shane Steichen said via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

According to The Athletic, the Colts have conceded 4 lost fumbles in the first six games. Jones has three while Taylor lost once against the Titans.
The Colts started the year with a couple of losses against good Baltimore and Kansas City teams. In Weeks 3 and 4, they defeated the previously winless Texans and the Commanders, who are at the bottom of the NFC East.
However, the loss to the Titans will sting the most. Not because it was a defeat against a direct rival, but because they failed to beat a team on a six-game losing streak, dating back to the final game of 2025.
Moreover, Titans QB Cam Ward struggled yet again. Ward completed 50% of his passes for 102 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. They didn’t score a rushing TD in the game, but special teams made the difference, especially Slye with his field goals and the Taylor turnover.
Colts insider goes off on Daniel Jones after the Colts lost to the Titans
Around this time last year, the Colts were 7-1, and everyone was screaming Daniel Jones to get the Comeback Player of the Year award. Jones averaged 1.5 touchdowns per game and at one point threw two touchdowns in four straight games.

However, his luck faded as the season progressed. He lost four of the last five before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. He went 8-5. The Colts lost the remaining four games to miss the playoffs.
Losses to Baltimore and Kansas City increased the Colts’ streak to six games. It ended with a 19-17 win over the Texans. Jones threw for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
The following week, he completed just 55.9% of his passes for 143 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in a 30-13 victory over Washington.
In Week 5, the Colts lost by ten points against the Steelers. For the second straight game, Jones failed to throw a touchdown, and on Sunday, he finally ended the drought but also offset it by turning the ball over twice.
ESPN’s Stephen Holder didn’t mince his words about Jones’ deteriorating form as the Colts’ starting quarterback.
On Daniel Jones, it’s a perfect storm IMO: Injury recovery, offensive line mishandling blitzes, bad options at WR, and shaky decision-making. He needed a perfect situation to succeed, and this ain’t that. But the ‘why’ doesn’t matter. Bottom line: Not good enough.

In six games, Jones has thrown 130 completions on 218 attempts for 1290 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Next week, the 2-4 Colts will play the undefeated 5-0 Vikings, who will be fresh after enjoying their bye.
