Conor McGregor overtakes Dan Hooker in the lightweight rankings; Dan Hooker’s reply is epic

New Zealand mixed martial artist Dan Hooker last fought in June 27 ,earlier this year, facing Dustin Poirier and eventually went on to lose via unanimous decision. He has been an active fighter in the lightweight division of the UFC, fighting at least 2 fights every year. The 20-9, Hooker wasn’t particularly happy with the recent changes in the rankings of the lightweight division. The reason – he was overtaken by “The Notorious” Conor McGregor who hasn’t fought in the lightweight division since October 2018!
Conor, on the other hand, has just come out of his 3rd retirement and will be fighting Dan Hooker’s previous opponent Dustin Poirier in Jan 23, 2021. The fight is widely being touted as a welterweight bought, as Conor recently said that he is comfortable being in his natural weight.
“Need to pick up my twitter game” – Dan
Dan Hooker had initially tweeted, “If you cut a cheque to stand on a scale and flex, you’re a fitness model not a fighter,” in a jibe aimed at new UFC recruit Michael Chandler. This tweet came in the wake of Michael Chandler being the back-up fighter for the Khabib vs Gaethje fight and eventually making weight as well, out of nowhere. A user named Platts replied to the tweet posting a ranking table which showed Conor moving up one position in the lightweight rankings, displacing Dan Hooker. Conor’s last fight in the lightweight division was against Khabib, ages ago back in 2018!
Dan Hooker cheekily replied that he needs to pick up his twitter game, implying that he needs to be more active on social media like Conor McGregor is. And likewise Conor’s ranking has gone up as he is very popular and active on social media.
Do you think Dan is right about the fact that UFC often manipulates rankings based on the ‘clout’ carried by the fighters?
