IPL 2021 was no different for the Punjab-based franchise. The management changed their avatar before the start of IPL 2021 with a new name in hopes to turn their fortunes too. But still, there wasn’t any change in their performance.
Punjab Kings are over-dependent on their skipper KL Rahul to deliver for them which has resulted in a decrease in his scoring rate. Even after getting a solid start, PBKS are unable to capitalize on it which builds pressure on the top order especially Rahul.

KL Rahul
KL Rahul is sure to be retained by the Punjab Kings. The player has been their best batsman from the time he came into the franchise in 2018. Rahul has been delivering consistently for Punjab Kings and has carried the burden and responsibility of the team.
He has shown that the pressure of captaincy hasn’t affected his performances. Rahul has been the backbone of Punjab Kings and was the holder of the orange cap in IPL 2020 and was 2nd on the list in IPL 2021 before it was suspended indefinitely. He has played his part to perfection but needs a supporting hand from the rest of the players to help PBKS achieve success.
Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal is another player who has been tremendous for the Punjab Kings at top of the order. In the last few seasons, he has shown his abilities of what he can do in the shortest format of the game. With KL Rahul playing the role of anchor, Mayank has made sure to keep up with the scoring rate with his explosive batting.
In the last two seasons, he has scored 684 runs in 18 matches with a massive strike rate of 150. His recent performances would most probably see him being retained by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction.
Shahrukh Khan
A young prodigy from Tamil Nadu, Shahrukh Khan was roped in by Punjab Kings for a whopping 5.25 crores in the IPL 2021 auction. Due to his exploits in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and other domestic tournaments for Tamil Nadu he was picked up by Punjab Kings.
He had a mediocre IPL 2021 season as he managed to score only 107 runs in 8 matches. However, if promoted up the order he can be very useful and can score big at a massive strike rate. His talent and skillset might see him being retained by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction.
