4 players KKR can retain ahead of IPL 2022

Andre Russell
It is speculated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalized the decision of providing all the IPL teams an option of retaining just two Indian and overseas players. The retention of only four players can result in many teams facing a major dilemma. Just like other franchises, the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will also need to take some harsh calls before IPL 2022 auction.
In this article, we take a look at four players whom Chennai Super Kings might retain ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
Shubman Gill

The young opening batsman Shubman Gill is touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. It was Kolkata Knight Riders who initially gave a platform to Gill to showcase his talent and prove his mettle to the cricket fraternity. Gill has amassed a stunning 1071 runs in 48 games at an average of 30.6. The KKR management won’t be keen on losing the future star and are likely to groom Shubman for the future.
Varun Chakravarthy

The right-arm mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has emerged as the biggest find for the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders. Varun’s mystery action has helped in taking the opposition by surprise and put a stop to the flow of the runs. The spinner has picked 25 scalps from 21 IPL matches and has a promising career ahead.
Andre Russell

One of the first retentions for Kolkata Knight Riders has to be West Indies hard-hitter Andre Russell. Apart from being one of the best hard-hitters in the shortest format of the game, Russell has also won matches for KKR with his exploits with the ball. The all-round capabilities of Andre Russell provide a much-needed balance and stability to the Knight Riders squad.
Pat Cummins

KKR found themselves making it to all the headlines after they made Pat Cummins the highest buy of IPL 2020 auction. Kolkata spent a massive amount of INR 5 crore to acquire the services of Cummins. In his two years with KKR, Cummins has picked 21 wickets in 21 matches. The thing that gives an edge to the Australian seamer is his ability to contribute positively to the scoreboard while coming to bat in the lower order.
