BCCI CEO Hemang Amin wants remainder of IPL 2021 to be held in UAE between September and October
IPL 2021
The interim CEO as well as the COO of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Hemang Amin has proposed that the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) can be held in the UAE between the months of September and October of this year.
The tournament was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic breaching the teams’ bio-bubbles midway through. The first half of the season had been done and the second half had just begun when as many as five personnel and more inside the bubbles tested positive. The BCCI then had no choice but to suspend the IPL indefinitely and get players back home safely.
Amidst the same, plans were going on as to how to conduct the remainder of the season. There is no time window except during September and a small part of October due to India’s international commitments. The venue also came under question as it would be difficult to get overseas players to travel to India. After considering options like UAE, England and Sri Lanka, the CEO of BCCI has proposed that UAE should host the tournament.
UAE is a tried and tested venue – BCCI CEO Hemang Amin
The CEO of BCCI who is also the COO, Hemang Amin has reportedly drafted two schedules according to TOI. One of these schedules is keeping in mind the United Kingdom as the venue and the other with the UAE. The BCCI will now have to decide between the two which is expected to be done at the Board’s Special General Meeting (SGM) which will be held on the 29th of May for the very purpose.
It is noteworthy that the IPL was held without hassles back in 2020 at the UAE. Hemang Amin was among those praise for pulling the tournament off in a successful manner. According to TOI, Amin is expected to campaign for the UAE due to reasons like logistical ease as well as the risking of monsoon rains if shifted to the UK. Further, holding the tournament in England would lead to higher costs while the UAE is already a tried and tested venue.
