IPL 2022: “Dinesh Karthik is as close as it gets to Dhoni when it comes to being ice cool”- Faf du Plessis hails the RCB senior

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik’s 14-run off 7 balls helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)clench their first point in the Indian Premier League 2022 after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 3 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

With the help of Karthik’s massive hits in the last over RCB won the match and following the match, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis praised Dinesh Karthik for his important role in the final over and drew comparison with MS Dhoni. Du Plessis had played 12 IPL seasons with the Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

He said: “In an ideal world, we would’ve liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win. DK’s experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs weren’t never really too far away. DK is as close as it gets to MS Dhoni when it comes to being ice cool.

Whether giving his services behind the stumps or playing the role of a finisher, Dinesh Karthik never disappoints the team. Given the powerful batting line-up in the RCB squad, the run chase of 129 looked easy but with the rapid fall of wickets, pressure shifted to the Royal Challengers. The 36-year-old then came at number seven.

Only 7 runs were needed in the last over. Dinesh Karthik hammered a six off the first ball of Andre Russel which was followed by a four and so RCB were able to win their first point.

The RCB captain du Plessis also stated that their side has the opportunity for improvement in the batting department.
He said: “Small score, we just tried to be positive but very good bowling from their seamers. The ball swung a little more earlier but today there was seam and bounce. Two three days ago, it was 200 and today it was 130.

We would like to be more convincing. Just the experience. The runs were neve a problem. We just needed to have wickets in hand. I rely on other people for help. We have great people in the camp. There is good communication in the group. The guys have been great. They have been supportive. They are coming to me with ideas.” He added.
