Guyana Amazon Warriors sign Shoaib Malik ahead of the CPL 2021
Shoaib Malik
Shoaib Malik returns to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 after missing out from the 2020 edition. Malik will play for his former team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, in the CPL 2021, which is scheduled to be held in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Malik has featured in 56 matches in the CPL notching 1707 runs at a decent average of 30.48. The Pakistani all-rounder has also led the team in the past, but will play under Nicholas Pooran this season. In his previous stint with the club, Malik played a key role in the Warriors’ 11-match winning streak in 2019.
The player was a crucial part of the Warriors’ lineup. With the bat, he perfectly embodied the part of an anchor, scoring 317 runs in 12 innings at an average of 63.40 and finishing the season as sixth highest run-scorer overall and second-highest for the team behind Brandon King.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have never won the CPL
The Guyana Amazon Warriors are looking for their maiden Caribbean Premier League title. They have appeared in the tournament Finals five times, which is the most by any team in the league’s history. However, on each of those occasions, they have finished as Runners-up.
The management would like Shoaib Malik to perform once again and help them win the trophy this time.
The Caribbean Premier League 2021 will kick off on August 28 and conclude on September 19. All games will be held in Warner Park Sporting Complex, St Kitts and Nevis due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cricket West Indies’ recent international matches in Antigua were played without any crowd. However, the CPL management is pushing ahead by urging fans to return to Warner Park, which would be filled to up to 50% capacity, if they can provide evidence of the Covid-19 vaccination.
