Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) engaged in yet another nail-biting encounter in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, this time the result turned out to be in RR’s favour as they pulled off a win by the narrowest margin of two runs.
Batting first, Sanu Samson’s men posted a great total of 185-10 in their quota of 20 overs. Youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal (49) and Mahipal Lomror (43) emerged as the top-scorers for their side. However, PBKS openers KL Rahul (49) and Mayank Agarwal (67) looked like taking the game away from their opponents before Rajasthan speedsters bowled exceptionally well in the death overs.
Young pacer Kartik Tyagi won the ‘Player of the Match’ for his spell of 4-0-29-2 under immense pressure against a quality batting side. Moreover, this two-run victory for the Rajasthan-based franchise wasn’t their first time as they have earlier won twice in the previous editions of the cash-rich league.
RR vs Mumbai Indians (MI) at Durban
It all started against Mumbai Indians (MI) during the second season of the tournament. Batting first, RR posted a decent total of 145/7 with the help of decent knocks from Rob Quinny (51) and Ravindra Jadeja (42). The MI Paltan was struggling throughout the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Rajasthan’s then skipper and current mentor, Shane Warne was declared as the MOTM.
RR vs Deccan Chargers (DC) at Nagpur
RR registered yet another victory of two in the following season against now-defunct Deccan Chargers (DC) at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. Rajasthan was all out for 159 runs in 19.5 overs while former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson smashed a half-century. The Adam Gilchrist-led side failed to go past the target despite an outstanding knock from the bat of Rohit Sharma (73). In the game as well, Warne won the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
