Current India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has showered massive praises for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy after match 31 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

However, the game turned out to be a forgettable one for the Bangalore-based franchise as they suffered a humiliating defeat by nine wickets. Earlier, RCB bundled out for a below-par total of 92 runs on Monday in Abu Dhabi. Chakravarthy, who recorded an outstanding spell of 4-0-13-3, also emerged as the ‘Player of the Match’.

The 32-year-old reckoned that Chakravarthy’s performance is a great sign for team India as the mystery spinner is set to represent the national side at the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE.

“Pretty good, that’s exactly what I was saying in the dug-out, he will be a key factor when he plays for India. We need to see performances like these from all the youngsters so that the bench strength of Indian cricket stays strong. And, he’s someone who is going to play in the near future for India and it’s a great sign,” Virat Kohli said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Varun Chakravarthy, on his part, stated that the pitch was flat and there wasn’t much spin on offer. Hence, he kept the wicket-to-wicket line against RCB batters. He signed off while saying playing for India made him feel better.

“When I have the ball in my hand, I try to assess the pitch. It was flat, credit to the bowlers for bowling well in the Powerplay. I like to set it up for the bowlers who come on after me. There wasn’t much spin on offer, so I had to keep my line on the stumps only. Playing for India has made me feel better, I have a sense of acceptance from people around me because I started at 26,” said Chakravarthy.
