Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami highlighted the positive approach of Rohit Sharma towards the bowlers as he provides all the freedom for the bowlers to execute their plans in an interview with India TV.
Virat Kohli is presently the skipper for the Men in Blue across all three formats but there has been occasional talks in the Indian cricket fraternity that Rohit Sharma, the MI captain who secured 5 IPL trophies could be a better option to captain team India. The Indian opener has excelled in making decisions as a captain for the Mumbai Indians franchise as he backed youngsters and uncapped players in the early part of their careers which paid off very well which is reflected from the fact that presently out of the national side’s recent playing XI, 6 of them are from the MI franchise, including the MI skipper himself.
“He always gives positive answers” – Mohammed Shami on Rohit Sharma

Mohammed Shami, was questioned regarding the talks about who would be the better captain among the two. The 30 year old Indian pace bowler, without taking any side, commended the approach of Rohit Sharma towards the bowlers. He stated that Rohit was someone who backed the plans of the pace bowlers by providing them positive replies to have all the freedom to execute the plan which the bowlers have in their mind. He added that such an approach would definitely boost the confidence of the fast bowler.
“As a bowler, when I go to him for advice, he always gives positive answers. Rohit always pushes the bowlers to do what their mind tells them to, irrespective of how the batsman is playing or his strong points. I think that is very important for the confidence of a fast bowler,” he told India TV.
It is to be noted that in this edition of IPL the MI franchise were able to defend low scores for a number of times under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. He exhibits complete confidence over his bowlers and is supportive of the bowlers who are under pressure. The bowlers have also felt comfort of freedom under his captaincy which have helped them to be effective under critical situations in the shortest format. Shami goes on to differentiate the duo – Rohit and Kohli, as the former is calm in the field and the latter is aggressive and celebrates the bowlers’ wicket as his own.
Meanwhile the fast bowler expressed his liking for Captain Kohli’s aggression on field. “Fast bowlers are very aggressive, both old and new. But the one player who could probably emulate their aggression is our own captain! Sometimes, when a picture of Virat’s celebration of a wicket goes viral on social media, I funnily ask him, “Was it my wicket or yours?” Mohammed Shami said.
“He celebrates more than the bowlers! Sometimes he points out that you don’t look too happy with the wicket, so I simply tell him, ‘You did all the celebration for me!’. It is important to have fun on the field. Virat Kohli shows aggression, obviously, but as a unit, he has led the team brilliantly so far. In addition, he is a very aggressive batsman too,” he concluded.
Shami was injured with fore arm fracture during the test series against Australia. Then he recovered to play for the Punjab Kings franchise in IPL-2021 and currently featuring in the Indian test squad for World Test Championship taking place in June 18 against New Zealand in Southampton.
