“He can give you middle order batting as well” – Anil Kumble wants Mumbai Indians to target Sikandar Raza

“He can give you middle order batting as well” – Anil Kumble wants Mumbai Indians to target Sikandar Raza

Mumbai Indians released 13 players ahead of the mini-auction in hopes of constructing a better squad for IPL 2023. Last season they finished at the bottom of the points table. One area that will definitely want to strengthen is the spinning department, which lacks a proven star.

They have uncapped players Kumar Kartikeya and Hrithik Shokeen but that will be very tricky in a high pressure league like the IPL. Hence, it is a no-brainer that the five-time champions will target a quality spinner at the auction. Former India head coach Anil Kumble feels that MI might have to go for an overseas spinner.

“Mumbai Indians don’t have a marquee spinner in their ranks. Kartikeya did really well for them last year. If they have to go for an Indian spinner with experience than they will have to probably go back to Amit Mishra or Piyush Chawla. I don’t see that happening. Perhaps, the only option for them is to go for overseas spinner. Who will it be? There’s Adil Rashid, Tabraiz Shamsi, Adam Zampa,” he told on JioCinema.

Anil Kumble suggested that the Mumbai-based franchise should aim to sign Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been impressive in recent years. He feels that Raza can provide his spin bowling, which is decent enough. The cricketer can also be used as a middle-order batter.

“I would probably look towards Sikandar Raza because he can also give you a wonderful middle order batting as well, along with his spin, which is not easy to pick, and he has done well in the recent past,” he explained. Raza was one of the top performers in the T20 World Cup 2022.
