IPL 2023: Ben Stokes likely to be part of the auction
Ben Stokes
England all-rounder Ben Stokes is likely to enroll himself in the mini-action for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The event is likely to be held towards the end of the year, preferably on December 16. However, the venue is yet to be decided by the BCCI.
While the auction will be a mini affair, unlike the previous one, which was a mega-auction, there will be no shortage of star players. One of the best all-rounders at present, Ben Stokes is likely to take part. He skipped last season’s acution to stay fresh for national team assignments.
However, the Ashes will kick-off on June 16, right after the conclusion of the cash-rich league. Stokes, being the skipper of the Test team, would be keen to bring the Ashes home from Australia. Hence, his availability throughout the season will be something to watch out for.
Apart from Stokes, all-rounders Sam Curran and Cameron Green will also throw their names at the event. Curran had an impressive season with CSK in the 2020 and 2021 season. However, he missed the last auction due to an injury. Cameron, on the other hand, will be participating in the league for the first time.
Punjab Kings eyes on Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Cameron Green
Punjab Kings have already taken a big step by handing over the captaincy duties to Shikhar Dhawan from Mayank Agarwal for the upcoming season. Reportedly, they are looking to release Mayank, Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith ahead of the auction. This will allow them to free up INR 27 crore in the budget.
The decision is being backed by newly appointed head coach Trevor Bayliss. The Punjab-based franchise is also planning to acquire any two of Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Cameron Green. This will allow them to make the side more balanced as the squad is already blessed with hard hitters.

This year will see an increment of Rs 5 Crore in the purse. Punjab Kings finished in sixth position in the points table last season. Surprisingly, they have not made it into the playoffs since 2014. When they take on the field in 2023, the Mohali franchise will be eager to turn things around.
