When the rescheduled fifth Test started between India and England and even after India staggered at 98/5 on Day 1, Rishabh Pant’s heroic ton revived the innings and gave the Indian fans some relief.
Even on Day 2, team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja slammed a ton and helped India post a mammoth 416 runs on the board. Fans were entertained by Jasprit Bumrah’s special show where he smashed 29 runs in an over of Stuart Broad’s over, creating a world record of most runs in an over by breaking the legendary Brian Lara’s 28 in an over. England could score only 284 before getting all out.
Rishabh Pant was impressive in the second innings after his half-century knock. Cheteshwar Pujara also added runs after his 66. At the end, India gave a target of 378 runs to England.
England responded with a good start from the openers Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46), before an unbreakable 269-run partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow ended India’s hopes. Both the players walked out with an attacking mindset on the final day and brought their respective tons comfortably.
Root played 173 balls to score 142 runs while Bairstow scored a 145-run 114 runs to help England win the Test by seven wickets. However, India had the lead 2-1 and England’s win only levelled the series 2-2.
Now fans have believed that like former India head coach Ravi Shastri, Dravid and Co will also win the match with just one spinner, Ravindra Jadeja. But Jadeja had been impressive with the bat but couldn’t do the same with the ball. This made the Indian fans angry over why the team management did not avail the services of other spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Some fans are even angry over the ‘ego’ of BCCI president Saurav Ganguly for bringing down Indian cricket after it saw highs under the leadership of Virat Kohli and guidance of Ravi Shastri.
