“Brain fade,” fans left scratching their heads as Shikhar Dhawan asks Harpreet Brar to bowl 20th over against Delhi Capitals

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan faced the flak of the fans as he asked left-arm off-spinner Harpreet Brar to bowl the 20th over against Delhi Capitals (DC) as the two teams locked horns on Wednesday. With one eye on one of the playoff berths, PBKS hosted Delhi at the seam-friendly HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Dhawan even got it right at the toss and invited DC to bat first.

However, the DC opening pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw made Dhawan regret his decision as the pair put up a 94-run opening partnership. Even after Warner getting dismissed, Delhi Capitals continued the momentum as Rilee Rossouw (82* off 37) played a gem of a knock. DC eventually ended with 213/2 in their 20 overs.

While the DC batters did play really well to accumulate runs at a quick rate, Dhawan’s decisions on the field only helped DC. The PBKS captain made some strange bowling changes which included handing Harpreet Brar the 20th over, that too against a roaring Rossouw. The result was inevitable. Rossouw and Philip Salt accumulated 23 runs off the Brar over.

Dhawan leaves everyone surprised!

This decision drew flak for Dhawan as fans questioned the Punjab captain’s tactics. Most were appalled by the decision to hold back Arshdeep Singh who is known for his death bowling prowess.

Check out the reactions:

While Shikhar Dhawan surprised everyone with his decisions, Rilee Rossouw entertained one and all with his range of shots. Although the wicket was on the flatter side, Rossouw annihilated the PBKS bowling lineup. The DC batter hit six boundaries and six sixes in his inning.
