“C for consistency,” fans go berserk as MS Dhoni’s CSK qualify for IPL 2023 Playoffs
CSK beat Delhi Capitals by 77 runs in their last league game of the season to make it into the knockout stages.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have turned their fortunes around from last season as the four-time champions qualified for the IPL 2023 Playoffs. CSK beat Delhi Capitals by 77 runs in their last league game of the season to make it into the knockout stages. However, it is still not decided if the MS Dhoni-led team will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 or will play in the Eliminator.
Nevertheless, it is the 12th qualification for CSK in 14 editions and the fans are overjoyed about it. It all started with MS Dhoni winning the toss and the CSK opening pair adding 141 runs together. Ruturaj Gaikwad (79 off 50) and Devon Conway (87 off 52) played some breathtaking shots in the middle to get their team to a flying start.
After Gaikwad fell, Conway added 54 runs for the second wicket with Shivam Dube who was the aggressor in the middle. Dube played a beautiful cameo (22 off 9) and set the tone for a big finish. Ravindra Jadeja (22* off 7) ensured CSK finish on a high. The four-time champions ended with 223/3. Tushar Deshpande then provided the first breakthrough to keep the momentum with CSK.

After this, Deepak Chahar took over and dismissed Philip Salt and Rilee Rossouw on consecutive deliveries to further push DC on backfoot. Despite David Warner’s valiant fifty (86 off 58), CSK beat DC by 77 runs. Apart from Chahar, the Sri Lankan pair of Matheesha Pathirana(2/22) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/23) helped CSK seal a playoffs berth.
With the four-time champions once again breaking into top four, fans hailed CSK for their consistency.
