In the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games, cricket has made its appearance for the first time after 24 years. In 1998, cricket was included for the first time in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. However, the 22nd edition has introduced women’s cricket where eight teams will be locking horns against each other in the T20 format.

16 matches are set to be played across ten days starting from July 29 to August 7 in Birmingham, England. Being the host, England’s team has automatically qualified for the tournament, while other teams’ qualifications were based on their ICC Women’s T20 Rankings. The other five teams that have secured qualifications are India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan. Sri Lanka and Barbados have also got their green card to Birmingham.

Eight Teams have been divided into two groups- Group A and Group B. Group A consists of India, Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados. While Group B has England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. The reigning T20 champions Australia will play against the runners-up India in the opening match on Friday, July 29. Another interesting match between India and Pakistan wiil take place on Sunday, July 31.
