Pakistan needed a special innings from someone in order to chase down New Zealand’s massive 402-run target. Opener Fakhar Zaman was able to deliver that. On the small and batting-friendly ground of Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where usually one watches runs galore, Zaman slammed his century on Saturday (November 4).

Despite the dismissal of opener Abdullah Shafique and a huge target ahead of them, Zaman, under immense pressure, shifted his gears after reaching his fifty to score his century from just 63 balls from seven boundaries and nine sixes. However, a moment after his ton, rain halted the match.

Apart from Zaman, skipper Babar Azam is also trying to quickly score runs, given that they need to win this match by a large margin. If rain continues to interrupt the match and ends up washing it away, Pakistan will win, as they are 10 runs ahead as per the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Netizens awestruck after watching Fakhar Zaman slam his ton

Right after Fakhar Zaman’s century, fans started mocking Imam-ul-haq for his “protein” remark which he made during a press conference, saying that the reason why Pakistani openers are not able to hit sixes is the lack of protein in their diet. Some netizens, including former India opener Virender Sehwag, said that Pakistan don’t need protein but passion to play like Zaman.

The reason behind New Zealand’s putting such a huge total on the scoreboard is Rachin Ravindra’s third World Cup century and 95 runs from comeback man Kane Williamson. A few other valuable contributions from batters ensured the Kiwis crossed 400. Even if Pakistan win this match, their headache won’t lessen, for they have to win by a large margin to keep themselves alive in the tournament for the semi-final race.
