In November 2020 when Mohammed Siraj traveled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, his father passed away due to an illness. Unfortunately Siraj couldn’t travel back home due to quarantine rules and stayed in Australia. His decision proved fruitful as his career took off thanks to that tour. He was instrumental in India winning that series, as he picked up his first Test five wicket haul in Brisbane

Siraj cemented his place in the Test team and also began performing in One Day internationals, proving himself in the international circuit. He was the number 1 ODI bowler in the ICC rankings for a while, took a match-winning five wicket haul in the 2023 Asia Cup final and is now a World Cup finalist.

Almost 3 years after his father’s passing away, Siraj posted a story on his Instagram account remembering his father. He posted a photo of a phone which was receiving a call from the contact “Dad”. Siraj stated, “I wish to see this call” and that he misses his father.

Keshav Maharaj replaces Mohammed Siraj as the number 1 ODI bowler

In the latest update to the ICC Men’s ODI Bowler’s Ranking, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has dethroned Mohammed Siraj as the number 1 ODI bowler. Siraj has had an average World Cup campaign so far, picking up 13 wickets with the average of 32.62. He right now has a rating of 723, just 3 points below Maharaj.
