India and Australia are currently playing each other in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup finals, which is probably the biggest game of 2023. Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first, citing the dry wicket and dew at night. Despite Rohit Sharma said he wanted to bat, India did not have a good start with Shubman Gill being dismissed for four runs.
Coming in to bat, Rohit started off attacking the bowlers in the powerplay like he always does, while Shubman Gill visibly struggled against the Aussie quick Mitchell Starc. The first ball he faced off Starc, he edged it to slips but luckily it didn’t carry.
On his 7th ball, Gill tried pulling Starc over mid-wicket but didn’t time it well. The ball flew in the air and landed in the hands of Adam Zampa, who was fielding at mid-on. He departed for only 4 runs after facing 7 balls.
Fans question Shubman Gill’s shot selection
Netizens were not happy with Shubman Gill’s dismissal. Many said his shot was unnecessary and reckless. Netizens believed he should have stayed and supported Rohit Sharma while the captain continued his assault on the Australian bowlers.
Some did come to his defense, saying he is still young and his time will soon come. Gill has had an unbelievable year in ODIs so far, scoring 1584 runs in 29 innings. His average is 63.36 and has scored 5 centuries in the year.
