CWG 2022: “A classic Pakistan collapse”- Twitter reacts as India’s Sneh Rana strikes to bundle out Pakistan for just 99
IND vs PAK
India women clashed with arch-rivals Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Edgbaston, in Birmingham on Sunday, July 31.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Muneeba Ali and Iram Javed walked out to bat first but soon the latter had to head back to the pavillion. Meghna Singh dismissed Javed on duck.
Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof was the next batter and she too got dismissed cheaply. Sneh Rana was bowler to give this breakthrough. She bowled a length ball and Maroof shuffled across to swipe it but missed it. The ball hit her pad and a huge appeal for lbw was made and it was given too. The batter then went upstairs and with no spike on ULtraEdge and three reds on Ball Tracking then confirmed Maroof’s dismissal. Maroof got out after scoring 17 runs off 19 balls.
In the same over, Rana’s caught and bowled Muneeba. Rana angled it into leg stump and Muneeba caught in between using her feet or staying put but in the end, she did neither. She just pushed the ball gently back to the bowler and Rana took a simple return catch.
Apart from Muneeba, no batter could even reach 20. Next batter, Omaima Sohail got run-out by Radha Yadav. When Shefali Verma bowled a slow ball, batter Aliya Riaz hit it to the right of cover point. Yadav there stopped the ball and saw that Sohail is halway down the track. There was no response from Riaz and the ball the ball then was thrown back to the bowler and Verma dislodged the balls. Sohail scored 10 runs off 13 balls.
Ayesha Naseen too scored 10 runs off nine balls before losing her wickets to Renuka Singh. Riaz played a knock of 18 runs off 22 wickets with two boundaries and a run out from Sabbhineni Meghana dismissed her. In the end, Pakistan got all out on 99 runs in 18 overs because of a rain delay.
