Danielle Wyatt expresses disappointment on Mannat Kashyap's mankad of Jenna Evans
England batter Danielle Wyatt took to Twitter to express her disappointment on an incident surrounding mankad run-out. During the first game of the five-match T20I series between India Women U19 and South Africa U19, left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap ran out Jenna Evans.
Kashyap saw Evans was backing up a lot, so she stopped in her stride and dislodged the bails. The umpire dismissed the batter but captain Shefali Verma withdrew the team’s appeal and called the batter back. Despite that, Danielle Wyatt took to Twitter to share her disappointment. She wrote: “Oh no I hope there’s none of this in the u19 WC!“

The run-out of batters at the non-striker’s end by the bowlers is now a legal dismissal. But still, many have called this unfair practice which doesn’t follow the spirit of cricket. The intense debate surrounding mankading started when India’s Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean earlier this year.

Deepti Sharma’s mankading Charlie Dean triggered a heated debate on social media
During the third ODI between India and England at the Lord’s, Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean to help India whitewash the host 3-0. That event to a great extent overshadowed the fact that the legendary Jhulan Goswami was playing the last game of her career.
Social media was polarized. Many had come to the team and Deepti’s support by calling it a legal dismissal, but there were many who slammed her for ruining the “Spirit of Cricket”. In that match, Dean was the last player, fighting to rescue her team from a clean sweep and India needed to scalp just one wicket. Deepti ended England’s hope by running out Dean.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, Ravichandran Ashwin ran out of English skipper Jos Buttler which also divided the fans’ views. Mankading is, arguably, one of the most controversial laws in cricket.
