“RCB should thank Rishabh Pant”- Delhi Capitals pay ultimate price for Rishabh Pant’s not taking DRS against Tim David

It was Tim David in the end who had done the major damage to shatter Delhi Capitals’ hopes to enter the playoffs as Mumbai Indians defeat them by 5 wickets on Friday, May 21 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rishabh Pant had decided not to take DRS when he should have taken it to dismiss the dangerous batsman. Talking at the post-match presentation, Rishabh Pant explained why he didn’t take the review. He said:

“I thought there was something, but everyone standing in the circle was not convinced enough. So I was asking them if we should go upstairs. In the end, I didn’t take the review.”

DRS blunder will haunt DC

DC had the advantage of superior net run rate (NRR) over RCB and the latter had already gained 16 points. To qualify for the playoffs, DC had to beat MI, which they failed to succeed. A DRS blunder will haunt the DC dressing room now that they have lost the match.

When the power hitter Tim David came out to bat, Shardul Thakur had bowled a good delivery outside off stump. David has missed the ball while he tried to push it to the covers but there was a noise. Pant had caught the ball as the noise was heard through the stump mic. Pant immediately appealed but the third umpire turned it down. They had both the reviews in their bag. Pant had a brief chat with bowler Shardul Thakur and to everyone’s surprise, he decided not to go for the DRS.

But UlraEdge showed a spike if Pant had taken the DRS, the match result would have been a different one. Even David would have dismissed for a duck.

And what went after that? He smashed two fours and four huge sixes to score 34 runs in just 11 deliveries. Only in the 18th over, Shardul Thakur could trap him; but the Singaporean had already done the damage for DC.
